Fath’s 1954 Corset-Waist Designs & Blogger wearing #1265 Vogue Paris Original

This is the reveal of my recreation of Fath's 1954 corset-waisted petal dress!

In 1954, Fath experimented with corset-waisted silhouettes.

Here is my recreation, made in red silk crepe.

Below, is another, similar corset-waisted dress with shoulder petals Fath designed that same year.

Fath also designed a tailored “corselete suit," structured from whalebone.

Although the corselete silhouette was "simple" compared to his elaborate gown designs, the magic of couture still showed through. The March 4, 1954 issue of the NY Times recognized that, "the greatest evidence of a designers knowledge of fashion design was the simplicity and uncluttered look of the clothes, masking the finished skill of their cut and the workmanship shown in the details."

This is one of my favorite designs by Fath. Its simplicity, timelessness, and playfulness allows one to wear it as a late afternoon dress, or for an early evening soirée.

This dress was on my bucket list to create for years. I’m glad I finally had the confidence to be able to recreate it, and I'm so glad to contemplate wearing it out to an event soon as venues begin to open up again.
